Truth be told, I always thought this was a ‘bad’ movie. It wasn’t until prepping the episode this week that I came to realize that Blades of Glory is relatively well respected in the sports comedy world. That’s not to say everyone across the board acknowledges it as a well rounded satire, but seeing a Rotten Tomatoes score in the 70’s had me puzzled. Was there more to Blades of Glory than my original teenage mind could comprehend at the time? Turns out the answer is “kind of”. Blades of Glory is way funnier in my twenties than it ever was when I was younger. Especially in a world where I, Tonya became an Oscar nominated darling hardly a year ago. To my genuine surprise, revisiting Blades of Glory essentially had me reframing a film I had previously condemned in my mind as “silly” and “overrated”. And in a way, that’s really what this podcast was all about. So please enjoy this episode about a very silly movie that also happens to be wonderful.
